Dimitri Giokaris’ record in service is closely aligned with his scholastic career at Athens College – Psychico College, where he’s been an elected representative on the Student Council since 2016. This year, Dimitri has been responsible for planning the school’s annual Panigyri Festival as the Head of the event’s Organizing Committee. This job has required him to get to know members of the community and different extracurricular groups devoted to cultural practices and service causes, and these relationships helped convince him that the student body is already making a difference in the world in myriad ways. His approach to the Social Impact Club evolved in large part out of a desire to channel these energies toward leaving a lasting, positive mark on the world. In addition to his service on the Student Council, Dimitri has served his communities as a member of Axion Hellas (an NGO that provides medical services and resources to people living in remote regions of Greece), the Olympic Truce Committee, and Filotimo. He is particularly interested in creating ways that the fields of engineering and construction can be directed toward socially beneficial goals, such as the creation of public space for recreation and commerce and the development of environmentally friendly infrastructure.
